Dugong is considered synonymous with Odobenus and placed in the family "Tetropia" (= pinnipeds); the remainder of the Sirenia are represented by the family "Diopia", comprising Manatus and the new but unexplained and undiagnosed nominal genus Nemodermus (nomen nudum) (60).
