Kondrashov, P. E. (detail)

1998
The taxonomic position and relationships of the order Hyracoidea (Mammalia, Eutheria) within the Ungulata sensu lato.
Pal. Jour. 32(4): 418-428. 1 fig.
–Transl. from Russian (Pal. Zhur. 1998(4): 95-105). Reviews cranial and mandibular characters, comparing Trichechus manatus and Prorastomus with tapirs, hyraxes, and proboscideans. Concludes that hyracoids belong in the Grandorder Paenungulata and not with perissodactyls, but in a Mirorder Procaviamorpha together with embrithopods, separate from the Mirorder Tethytheria.
